Do one thing every day that scares you!

19 May

Courage to go after what you really want frequently requires us to step out of our comfort zone and take a leap of faith.  What burning desire in you remains unfulfilled?  This is what Eleanor Roosevelt meant when she said “Do one thing every day that scares you”!  Take a risk!  This could be as basic as driving a different way home or talking to someone who intimidates you!  It could be signing up for a marathon or a triathlon. Or plan a trip for 2 weeks halfway around the world – say Africa (smiles)!  The point is that you continue to experience your life in new and different ways.  The human spirit wants to explore, to experience new things, to move forward. Why don’t we?  Fear!  It is easier to not take risks.  It is easier to not be scared, not stand out.  There are many fears I encounter daily around going on this journey to Africa.  Each time I go there I pray for information and knowledge to set my mind at ease.  I find a way to settle the fear and not diminish the wonderful purpose, the dream.

Since turning 40, I have realized that fear is nothing more than an obstacle standing in the way of achieving something great, something big, something…. In overcoming our fears we open ourselves up to the world!  We allow our life to be full and alive.  We allow ourselves to fulfill our passion, our deep desires, our dreams.

I can’t say that I wrote the following but I like it so much that I wanted to share it!

The difference between living fully and existing passively is making a decision.  It doesn’t require money, fame or fortune.  It requires you to welcome what you love and what you are passionate about.  It requires eliminating all the optional “shoulds” that bore and stifle you.  It requires the courage to try things that scare you and to risk failing.  It requires you to believe, even just for a moment, that your life can take and exhilarating turn for the better.

We don’t know what lies around the corner unless we allow ourself to go there.  What are you waiting for?

May each of you find the courage to make a leap of faith and take a risk.  What burning desire in you remains unfulfilled?

Love and many Blessings,

You are helping the children in Africa by helping me

Wow!  I am blessed with wonderful friends and family!  Your outpouring of support and kind words fill my heart with so much happiness!  Thank you! Thank You!

I just received an email from our trip coordinator and this journey is truly going to make a difference is so many orphan’s lives. I can’t even imagine what it would be like as a child to not have parents; someone to tuck you in at night, care for your needs during the day, encourage you, love you unconditionally, and hold you while you are scared. For 11 days, our team will be working directly with the orphans touching the lives of over 2,000 children. We will be working together to feed them and help provide daily physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Through your generous contributions and support, you are also impacting the lives of these children.  You are helping the children in Kenya and Uganda by helping me. You are equally part of something so important, so rewarding, and so big!  You are helping to deliver hope, you are helping to deliver love, and you are helping to promote the well-being of these children.  Your prayers, helping hands, support and encouragement lift me up and for that I am truly grateful!

I am also grateful for the fabulous team I will be traveling with.  I was introduced to them yesterday and get chills thinking about the collective passion of my team members and the work we will do together.  I have a tentative itinerary, most of my forms are filled out, I have an appointment next week to discuss and get immunizations for the trip and, I  kick-off fundraising with garage sale on Friday and Saturday.  It all is becoming so real!

If it is meant to be, it will happen!

Last Tuesday, in the midst of recovering from shoulder surgery, I received a call from “Visiting Orphans” that I was now in the group traveling to Uganda and Kenya, July 28 – August 10th! Yes! I am off the wait list. What a blessing to hear in my time of so much pain. God truly watches over us giving us the gifts we need at the time we need them.

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and prayers over my journey! Keep them coming!

I will be hosting a few fundraising events over the next month to help support my trip and provide gifts to take to orphans in the 8 orphanages we will be visiting. Stay tuned for all the dates!

To kick things off, there will be a fundraising garage sale on Friday, May 11th and Saturday, May 12th! For those of you who are local, I am gladly accepting your donation of items to include in the sale. If you would like to help me with the garage sale, I would greatly appreciate that as well!

I am so happy!
